Cynical towards knowledge and authority

Post by Arzina3225 »

From the moment millennials entered the labor market in the 2000s, the general public was introduced to a generation that seemed radically different from previous generations. A new generation is now entering the labor market after millennials: Generation F. What can we expect from Generation F? And is this new generation really different in the Netherlands?

Long-term studies have made it possible to compare young people from different generations at the time they are young. Based on this, researcher Jean Twenge went wild on the millennials in her book Generation Me (aff.). Young people born roughly between the early eighties and the late nineties of the previous century were characterized as follows.

completely focused on himself
convinced of themselves and their right to success
narcissistic
materialistic
uninhibited
direct in dealing
not very concerned about the fate of others, but malaysia phone number list tolerant of others

Marketer Simon Sinek's monologue about millennials in the workplace is probably the best-known characterization of this group of now slightly older young people. Following Twenge, Sinek argues that millennials think they are entitled to everything, that they are narcissistic, lazy and unfocused and that they are mainly interested in themselves.

Sinek emphasizes that millennials are not to blame for who they are, and that they themselves suffer the most from their negative traits. Sinek says that millennials have become who they are because of their parents, the online technology they grew up with, and the fast-paced world they live in. According to Sinek, parents lied to their children that they were unique and that they could achieve anything they wanted. According to Sinek, social media leads to social isolation of young people, because of the rewards in the form of dopamine hits . As a result of social media, young people do not learn how to build meaningful relationships and they seek online validation when they are stressed, like an alcoholic turns to the bottle when stressed. According to Sinek, the fast-paced world they grew up in makes everything revolve around instant gratification.
