Interview with Valeria Landívar
—How did you get started in social media? What was the social media situation like in Canada at the time?
—I started working with social media very early on. I ran my first campaigns in Bolivia in 2004 when the tools were still limited, but the possibilities were huge. I can't deny that it was a time of exploration and learning.
When I went to live in Canada in 2009, I saw a huge market , the tools were evolving and the possibilities were unlimited. It was a big challenge because the public had to be educated because they did not see social networks as marketing tools and those who used them did so to send commercial messages about prices and offers .
So it was a stage of awareness in which I gave many conferences, courses, workshops to present some of the possibilities, explaining what Social Media is and therefore the main thing was not to sell directly but to be useful to the public to get long-term clients.
—How did you get your first clients?
Valeria Landívar —Since I had just arrived in Canada, the first thing I had to do was market myself in order to position myself in the media and thus show the public what I could do for their brand. A few months after I started my French-speaking presence online, a specialist published a list of the 100 most influential people on the web and my name was at number 13. This caught the attention of local newspapers , which published the news and people started contacting me and hiring me.
— What key points do you take into account when designing a social media strategy?
—The first thing is to help the client define their goals, identify their target audience, decide on the personality they want to reflect , and then decide on the platforms they will use. With this information, we can develop the content, promotion and results measurement strategy.
—Do you consider content marketing in your overall strategy?
Valeria Landívar —Always , what enriches a web presence is the information you share, and the more valuable this information is, the more useful you become to the public and the more loyal you become.
