In recent months, according to Dmitry Bunin, DDoS attacks have become less powerful in terms of bandwidth and traffic volume, but more massive, and their average duration has decreased.

It is noteworthy that cyprus whatsapp resource the number of cyberattacks has increased not only in the Russian Federation, but also around the world. Their share has grown by 18% compared to 2022, reports Irina Zinovkina, head of the Positive Technologies research group. The number of DDoS attacks in the world has increased by 63%, according to StormWall expert Boris Stepanov.

According to Zinovkina, this is facilitated by the following factors: the complex global geopolitical situation, the mass exploitation of zero-day vulnerabilities in popular software, as well as the increasing complexity and sophistication of attacks.

— Some attacks led to the implementation of unacceptable events, primarily at critical infrastructure facilities. In addition, cyber attacks were recorded with disruption of mobile communications and banking services, as well as incidents that resulted in the suspension of organizations' activities and even cases of bankruptcy, — the expert points out.

According to Igor Lyapunov, 2024 will break yet another anti-record for the number of cyberattacks. This conclusion can be made based on the results of the first quarter.

"The attackers are becoming more sophisticated. Every time we cope with another level of this cyber standoff, hackers invent something new. This fight is the key driver of the industry's development," he is convinced.

How to repel attacks
The process of repelling an attack remains generally unchanged and is based on a specific scheme, says Eric Arzumanyan. To do this, it is necessary to detect (discover) the attack, find out whether it was successful, prevent its spread to the internal network, investigate the incident, assess the damage and develop measures to prevent a repeat of the incident.

According to Boris Stepanov, the most effective way to repel cyberattacks is to build layered defense (having overcome one security loop, the intruder spends time on the next one), response regulations and practical exercises in accordance with them, technical equipment and the presence of a well-coordinated competent information security team. The head of the information security service should have exclusive access and management powers in the infrastructure.

The choice of technical means to repel a cyberattack depends on the specific organization, clarifies Irina Zinovkina.

“These may include anti-virus protection systems with a built-in isolated environment, SIEM solutions, application-level firewalls used as a preventive measure to protect web resources, as well as deep network traffic analysis systems (to detect complex targeted attacks both in real time and in saved copies of traffic),” the expert lists.

Organizations need to proactively build all the necessary processes related to monitoring and responding to an incident. It is important to constantly check the security of the infrastructure, Zinovkina emphasizes.

“We also shouldn’t forget about regularly raising awareness among the organization’s employees regarding information security issues,” she sums up.
