From on-premise to cloud
There are now a variety of options for operating software: in-house, on-premise, housing, dedicated and shared hosting, ASP, SaaS, public cloud and private cloud.
This article sheds light on the jungle of offer france number dataset types and recommends which offer type is best suited for which purpose.
Basically, you can distinguish between two approaches when it comes to the types of offers: Either the software is operated within your sphere of influence or outside your sphere of influence.
The following offer variants are those in which the software is operated within your sphere of influence:
Premise or Inhouse
The software is operated in your own data center.
Housing
The software is operated in an external data center in which you maintain your own infrastructure in a separate area that is only accessible to you. This can be, for example, a separate, ceiling-high fenced area (cage) or can be tower-like, lockable cabinets (racks) in which you maintain your own servers.
Dedicated or Shared Housing
The software is operated in an external data center on a server infrastructure that the data center operator provides to you in full. The servers can either be available exclusively for you (dedicated) or shared with other customers.
For the following offer variants, the software is outside your sphere of influence
Private Cloud
The software is operated by a service provider in an external data center on an infrastructure that is available exclusively for you. In contrast to dedicated hosting, the service provider not only takes care of your hardware, but also your software.
public cloud
The software is operated by a service provider in an external data center on an infrastructure that you share with your other customers. Here too, unlike shared hosting, the service provider takes care of the hardware and software.
By the way, services in the cloud were called ASP (Application Service Provider) in the 2000s and SaaS (Software as a Service) in the 2010s . But ultimately they are different names for the same type of offering.
