Experience shows that in any manufacturing enterprise, the application of Lean tools such as 5S, standard work, kaizen and visualization mainly focuses on equipment. Japanese engineers such as Shigeo Shingo and Seiichi Nakajima developed a number of concepts for improving equipment performance, which were then integrated into the lean manufacturing system. Three of the most famous of these include:

quick changeover equipment (SMED),

Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE),

total manufacturing maintenance (TPM).

On the other hand, the application benin email list of Lean methods and concepts at the enterprise level is made much easier by 5S; without it, they can be implemented and maintained ineffectively and for a long time. The 5S methodology plays a key role in the TPM concept, forming its basis.

On the other hand, many Lean methods become effective tools for implementing 5S at the level of a specific workplace, section or workshop. For example:

standardized work allows for the development of detailed 5S instructions;

visual management makes work processes and tasks for their improvement more visible and understandable;

Zoning provides clear marking of workspace, passages and storage areas.

We emphasize that when implementing Lean tools, including 5S, it is necessary to use a systemic approach, integrating their interaction. It is important to start with a trial run of 5S at several workplaces, involving representatives of various workshops and structural divisions to form future leaders of their teams.
