AI will reach the programming level of mid-level engineers

Mocking Apple for relying on its past success and "not inventing anything great for a long time"

Zuckerberg launched a fierce attack on Apple on the show, pointing out that Apple "has not invented a great product for a long time."

“On the one hand, the iPhone is great because now almost everyone in the world has a phone, and that has enabled some pretty amazing things in some ways,” Zuckerberg said. “But on the other hand… they’ve used the platform to create a lot of rules that I feel are pretty arbitrary, and I feel like they haven’t really invented anything great in a while. It’s like Steve Jobs invented the iPhone, and now 20 years later, they’re just sitting back and enjoying the success.”

He believes that iPhone sales are declining, and Apple's practice job seekers data of charging developers a 30% commission to maintain revenue growth is "arbitrary and unreasonable."

Regarding AirPods, Zuckerberg accused Apple of using a closed ecosystem to suppress competition. He revealed that Meta had hoped that its Ray-Ban smart glasses could be seamlessly connected to the iPhone like AirPods, but was rejected by Apple on the grounds of "security and privacy."

Zuckerberg predicts that by 2025, the field of software engineering will undergo a dramatic change , AI systems will become advanced enough that their programming level will be comparable to that of mid-level engineers, and Meta and other large technology companies will soon have AI systems that can efficiently write production code .

Zuckerberg said: "I think around 2025, Meta and other companies working on this technology will have an AI that can effectively play the role of a 'mid-level engineer' in a company, writing code."

Regarding concerns that AI may eliminate jobs, Zuckerberg feels it is difficult to draw a conclusion now, but speculates that it will create more creative jobs. Learning from history: Just as agricultural automation has liberated a large number of workers, AI will also liberate software engineers to do more advanced work.
