While most of the apps studied offer "some form" of online anonymity, the CSIRO says some app developers deliberately aim to collect personal information from users, which they could sell to external partners. However, less than 1% of users express any concerns about the security and privacy of using these apps.
18% of the tunneling technologies, and 84% and 66% of the apps leak IPv6 and DNS traffic, respectively. As a result, the report says, these apps do not protect user traffic from agents installed along its path that carry out online surveillance or tracking of users.
If you look at the official descriptions of applications on argentina whatsapp data Play, then for 94% of applications with IPv6 and DNS data leaks, it is said that they provide protection of personal information.
Before publishing its report, CSIRO contacted the developers whose apps were found to have security flaws, and as a result, some of them took steps to fix the vulnerabilities and some apps were removed from Google Play.
“Despite the fact that Android VPN apps are installed by millions of mobile users worldwide, their operational transparency and potential impact on users’ privacy and security remain terra incognita even for tech-savvy users,” the report concludes.
