Report from BarCamp Ostrava 2012

Post by suchona.kani.z »

Although we arrived in Ostrava about
50 minutes late, were greeted with open arms by the bitter cold and
the area around the public transport stop was completely deserted, we soon found ourselves
in the entrance hall of the University of Mining and Technology
and registered for the conference. Right at the entrance, we received the program of the entire
conference and were able to start absorbing information.

There were 21 lectures in total and they were
divided into three thematic halls:

Design & Development Hall
Business Hall / website
Business Hall / business
The opening of the conference and the linkedin database welcoming of all
speakers and listeners kicked off the entire conference a little after half past nine in the lecture
hall labeled Business Hall / web , and this auditorium also became our
refuge for almost the entire day.

Jakub Křenek – Corporate Website Chef
The first speaker was Jakub
Křenek ( @cenzanni ) with his lecture "Chef of the
Vodafone corporate website". The lecture was not based on a PowerPoint presentation, but
directly on the recently launched Vodafone website. Jakub explained what is and
is not on the website and why, and, among other things, interestingly demonstrated the use of responsive website
content . When we know that a visitor is our client, why tempt them to
switch from a competitor when we can offer them a better tariff and the effectiveness of the message
will be many times greater? Another interesting and useful tip was the introduction of direct routing from internal
search. People will find what they want on the website faster. Or, conversely, they are not sure
what they are looking for, and we can give them what we want them to find. But that is
a much riskier path and there is a greater chance that the (potential) customer will leave.
