As a rule of thumb, there should be a maximum of five steps that a customer has to go through to complete the checkout process on your site. If you have ever shopped online on different websites, you should know how tiring it can be to have to go through a long and arduous checkout process.

Walk yourself through the checkout process and be honest about how you feel about it. Did you journalist email list think it was easy and simple, or were you completely frustrated? And if there were moments during the checkout process that made you feel tired or frustrated, what were they? These are the elements of the checkout process that you would like to remove.

An example of a simple payment process that actually adheres to the golden rule of maximum five steps would be:

Don’t force the creation of an account
Don't force customers to create an account on your site in order to purchase from you. Make it an option if you want, but always have a guest checkout option available as well.
