LThe European Commission has launched a second formal procedure against TikTok Lite , questioning whether its launch in Spain and France could have infringed the DSA or Digital Services Act, which seeks to regulate the activities of large digital platforms.

The decision by the European body comes a week after it asked TikTok to provide a report detailing the risk assessment that the social network should have carried out before launching its app within the EU. However, TikTok did not provide this information .

As explained in the European Commission's bolivia number data statement , " TikTok now has until 23 April to submit the risk assessment report to the Commission and until 3 May to provide the rest of the requested information ."

TikTok Lite could promote addictive behavior
TikTok Lite, the new, lighter version of the popular platform, has been flagged for launching features that may not have been properly assessed for systemic risks . According to the DSA, a risk assessment report is required before introducing new features that may have a critical impact.

Concerns particularly surround TikTok Lite’s “Rewards Program ,” which incentivizes users to earn points through various activities, such as watching videos or inviting friends. This dynamic could encourage addictive behavior , which would be “ particularly worrying for children, given the alleged absence of effective age verification mechanisms on TikTok. The lack of effective age verification mechanisms and the alleged addictive design of the platforms are already being investigated in the first formal procedure against TikTok ,” the European Commission said.
