Myth 1. If I don’t meet all the requirements in the vacancy, it’s better not to apply
Often, specialists do not respond to vacancies due to the lack of just a couple of required skills and competencies. They believe that their chances of successfully passing the interview are small - and do not want to waste time.
This is a wrong point of view. Sometimes the requirements in the job description are too high. Recruiters can create a job description based on the principle of "everything and just in case a little bit more". Or these can be the wishes of the hiring manager, who is sure that this is how the very valuable employee will be found right away. Candidates carefully compare their experience with the requirements in the job description and, not finding even two matches, do not respond.
During the interview, it may turn out that a candidate who does not have these two points is so suitable for the company in terms of soft skills and corporate culture that the employer will be ready to close his eyes to the discrepancies. Also, the candidate may not respond if he only has theoretical experience, which may be enough for the employer.
Of course, this does not mean that you should respond to vacancies with absolutely irrelevant experience, but if there is an incomplete match, it is worth trying. If there is more than 70% match, this is already a green light.
