12.9 BILLION EUROS INVESTED IN ONLINE ADVERTISING IN EUROPE

The Ad Ex Report from the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) Europe indicates that €12.9 billion was spent on online advertising in Europe in 2008. The market has experienced a growth of 20% compared to 2007.
According to these figures, the growth rate of the online advertising market has slowed. In 2007 it grew by 40% (from 7.2 to 10.6 billion euros), but in the year when the crisis began, this gambling data usa growth was 20% compared to the previous year. Europe is closing the gap with the United States, where investment in online advertising in 2008 rose to 16.6 billion euros.
Investment in online advertising in Spain has increased from 497 million euros in 2007 to 628 million in 2008.
The six main European online advertising markets (United Kingdom, Germany, France, Holland, Italy and Spain), which account for 81% of online advertising investment, have grown, but less strongly than in 2007. On the other hand, online advertising has grown spectacularly in Poland (from 158 to 253 million), Austria (140 to 202) and Finland (133 to 178 million).
According to Alain Heureux, President of IAB Europe, the report "shows in graphic form the growth in Europe. But these figures also show, and this will not surprise anyone, that 2008 was a difficult year for the online economy."
Broken down by advertising types, the bulk of online advertising investment has gone to search engine marketing ($5.6 billion, 43%), followed by display ads with 29% of investment ($3.8 billion), classified ads ($3.3 billion, 26%) and email marketing ($200 million, 2%).
Also by advertising modalities, the growth experienced has been 26% in search engines, 17.4% in classifieds, 15.1% in print and 12.2% in email marketing.
