Yesterday, May 27, was the first day of the 28th Russian Internet Forum. At the analytical panel "Runet is 30. What's next? Data economy to improve the quality of life of citizens", Alexey Goreslavsky, CEO of the Institute for Internet Development (IRI), reported that in 2021, the volume of digital content amounted to 153.4 billion rubles, in 2022 - 93.5 billion rubles, and in 2023 - 186.2 billion rubles, of which:
⁃ RUB 75 billion - online games: taking into account the revenue of Russian game developers, payments through the AppStore, income from gaming platforms (VK Play, Yandex Games, Absolute Games, etc.) and intermediaries
⁃ RUB 98 billion - streaming china whatsapp resource services: revenues of streaming services, including ecosystem services from subscriptions or purchases of individual titles, including online video, online music, podcasts
Director of the Russian Association of Electronic Communications (RAEC) Sergey Grebennikov noted: "When we talk about Russian content, its creation and consumption, an association with the IRI immediately arises, because this structure has not only allocated billions of rubles for content development over the past few years, but also thanks to the IRI we have learned about new artists, directors, producers and understood that Russian cinema and media exist."
Alexey Goreslavsky said that IRI has invested from 10 billion to 20 billion rubles in the development of domestic content over the past few years, and announced that in 2024 IRI will invest 18.7 billion rubles: half of the budget in TV series, the other half in games.
Nikita Stepanov, an analyst at FG Finam, believes that Russian content has recently received a lot of subsidies, so offers from the Russian Federation are growing: "Users are switching to Russian services in the absence of alternatives, this is especially noticeable in streaming. We are seeing the same picture in terms of content: most Western media has disappeared, so users are switching to domestically produced entertainment. As a result, we are seeing an increase in demand for it, and this trend will most likely continue in the near future."
