Opening the online conference "Storage - the market in the face of high uncertainty", its moderator, InPrice Distribution Development Director Yaroslav Kuzmitsky, described the situation on the Russian market as "a profound transformation". The balance of power on it has changed greatly.
Independent expert in digital bolivia phone number list transformation Vladimir Afanasyev estimated the decline of the Russian storage systems market by 41% in monetary terms for the first 10 months of this year. This was due to the complete withdrawal of A-brand products from the market, primarily American and Japanese. The number of Russian vendors has grown to 12. At the same time, among suppliers of mass solutions, "screwdriver" assembly with a very low level of localization prevails. A significant share is made up of products from Taiwanese companies.
According to Treolan distributor manager Alexander Zhabin, up to 70% of potential storage system customers have not yet passed the denial stage. Real purchases are made only in emergency cases, to replace equipment that has physically failed. And then, if possible, preference is given to proven systems that are purchased through parallel import. Russian equipment is chosen almost exclusively by those customers who require registry systems.
of equipment through parallel import a major risk associated with technical maintenance. Plus, the intermediaries through which deliveries to Russia are made are themselves subject to secondary sanctions. A reasonable compromise, in his opinion, is equipment from Taiwanese vendors, despite all their limitations associated with the absence of a number of popular functions. At the same time, the bottom has not yet been reached on the market: no one will guarantee that Taiwanese companies will remain on the Russian market. Therefore, buyers of Taiwanese storage systems are strongly advised to purchase spare parts "with a reserve." But a full-fledged replacement for equipment from the senior lines has not yet appeared.
Kirill Kochetkov, technical director of the CGF studio, however, called many of the functions of A-brand storage systems excessive for most customers. The current situation on the market, in his opinion, will lead to customers planning their equipment requirements more precisely. Previously, according to him, this process resembled a children's game of broken telephone.
Yaroslav Kuzmitsky suggested that this situation could lead to the fact that software-defined solutions will begin to dominate in certain segments of the Russian market. The price for this will be a certain decrease in fault tolerance.
However, according to Sergey Razumovsky, Executive Director of Raidix LLC, such a prospect seems doubtful. In his opinion, the transition to software-defined storage systems is only advisable for very large companies that need unique solutions, or very small companies. For everyone in the middle, the use of software-defined solutions will create more problems than it solves.
According to Kirill Kochetkov, software and hardware storage systems may have prospects, but only if a business emerges that would provide technical support and configure such software systems to customer requirements. Especially since many of these products are sometimes not so easy to even launch.
