The editorial design agencies in this country can already get into position: a major order is lurking on the horizon. As the publisher Tamedia announced on Wednesday, it wants to bundle its editorial department into "competence centers" (what a technocratic word!). To make this possible, the layout for all Tamedia titles in German-speaking Switzerland is also to be standardized from mid-2018 .
To clarify: We are talking about a daily print run of austria rcs data around 385,000 copies and over a million readers. This will include at least ten titles («Tages-Anzeiger», «Der Bund», «Berner Zeitung» with its header pages «Berner Oberländer», «Langenthaler Tagblatt» and «Thuner Tagblatt», «Der Landbote», «Zürcher Oberländer» and «Zürcher Unterländer»). What a task! Whoever is tasked with coming up with this layout can be expected to have nerves of steel, patience and a willingness to discuss things. Rolling out a layout to so many titles is a major undertaking. But at least you can then boast that you have created the most widely used newspaper layout in this country in terms of circulation.
This is not entirely new, as the layout division is already common practice at Tamedia: «Tages-Anzeiger» and «Der Bund» already appear in the same layout, which is why the Bund is ironically called «the little Tagi» after the Tagi layout was imposed on it. The current layout of the Tages Anzeiger dates from 2009 and was slightly refreshed in 2014.
