— I got my number four years ago at a mobile store in the capital. The operator's branded van was parked right next to the metro. The employees in it were wearing branded clothes, so it didn't even occur to me that I was doing something wrong, especially since the purchase was made according to all the rules: I was asked to show my passport, they made out a contract in two copies, I paid the money and received a SIM card with a new number. Activation went without the slightest difficulty, as did further use of the number: I switched tariffs several times and received advice on the hotline.
— Four years have passed. The number has become an integral part of my life: messengers, social media and online banking accounts, mail and other dear things that require SMS confirmation for greater security are linked to it. But another operator offered very favorable conditions, and I decided to switch.
- And what did you do?
— Of course, when switching to another operator, I poland mobile database to keep the number so as not to change all the accumulated bindings at once. I came to the office of another operator. And suddenly they tell me that my SIM card is registered to another person! The support employee said that to resolve the issue, I need to write a statement at the nearest branch of the old operator. And he advised me to find out who the number is registered to through a mobile application. I installed it and saw that my number is registered to a certain N. There was no doubt left: I became a victim of scammers!
- Yeah... I hope you understand that scammers can block your number at any time. This is of course the least of the troubles, but it would be very unpleasant to suddenly lose the ability to log into your online bank via SMS. Discomfort and running around with finding out the circumstances are guaranteed for a couple of days for sure. Especially since many banks change the phone number only during a personal visit to the office.
Or it could be even worse: a fraudster will come to any operator's store, say that he lost his SIM card, show his passport and get a new SIM card with the same number absolutely free of charge. And along with it, the ability to intercept the entire flow of your confidential SMS codes. A tasty morsel for any fraudster.
- So everything is fine! And why did you need to change the operator
