The response from the marketing community was swift and often sarcastic, but one response was noticeably absent: surprise. Google has been moving to treat ads more like organic results for years.
Does this latest change do much to blend ads and chile number data results? If we go back just one iteration, it doesn't seem like a big change. The most recent version, shown below, also matches the color of the "ad" marker to the display URL, swapping out a thin rounded rectangle for the new, bold text...
Compare both 2019 versions to the 2017 desktop ad...
The mismatched colors and the yellow-on-white blocks are a bit more prominent than the two most recent treatments. If we go back to 2013, the evolution is much more evident...
