The need for device lifecycle management. To protect a network, there is an inevitable cost to replace devices. At some point, all physical security devices (including a physical NGFW) will reach end-of-life and become obsolete because the manufacturer will no longer support the product and its services. Software updates can only be made for so long before they exceed the capabilities of the device.
NGFW requires each location to have a device with its own set of rules. This increases the likelihood of inconsistencies, such as policy mismatches and conflicting rules. The lifecycle of each device is complicated and requires individual management.
