Before we move on to vocabulary, a quick question: Did Jean-Luc finally decide to buy something at the store? Did you understand that part?
Let's move on to vocabulary. So we have "would fit well". When we talk about a garment and we say that it fits well, it means that it fits well, it is the right size. If I say to my wife Céline "this dress suits you well", it means you wear it well, it is your size, and when I look at it, I find that it fits very well, it fits well, it looks very good, you are very elegant in this dress.
The size of the garment is simply whether it is small, medium or large. You have different sizes: S for small, M for medium, L for large, XL for very large, XS for extra-small, so very small. I wear S, for example. It's really the bigger you are, the more you're going to need a size that is larger.
The fitting room is the place where you will try on clothes.
You probably noticed that Jean-Luc used several phrases to ask Audrey's opinion. He asks it in different ways. He says: What do you think? So, how do you find me? These are different ways, different means of asking for an opinion, an opinion.
When we say that a garment is too + adjective, it means that it gives an impression. If it is too dressed up, it means that it gives the impression of being a little too dressed up, of being too poland whatsapp number data elegant. Sometimes there are situations in which we want to be just in a t-shirt, others where we have to have a shirt. If I put on a shirt while all my friends are in t-shirts, because it's a barbecue, we will say: "Hm, it looks too elegant to have put on the shirt". It gives the impression of.
When we say that something is on sale, it means that the price is reduced, this item can be purchased at a lower price than the normal price. It is on sale.
"It's not cheap" is an idiomatic expression meaning "it's expensive".
The expression "to splurge" means to spend a lot of money, to be almost crazy about it. We are so crazy that we spend a lot of money. So to splurge means to have a lot of expenses that we don't think about much.
And the expression "to fit like a glove", well it means to fit perfectly. We use it when talking about a garment. A glove is what we put on the hand. And the glove will fit the shape of the hand perfectly, each finger. And when we tell someone that a garment fits them like a glove, we are saying that this garment fits them very very well. I can say to Céline "this dress fits you like a glove", it means it suits you perfectly.
Third dialogue, this will be the last one for today: Talking about sports.
Audrey: Exactly, you're going to learn. Come on! This is the opportunity for us to meet again together.
Jean-Luc: That's true.
Before moving on to vocabulary, once again, a few questions: What sport does Jean-Luc play? And what sport would Audrey like to play with Jean-Luc? Do you have any ideas? Do you know how to answer these two questions?
Let's move on to vocabulary. To give a beating or to give a good beating means to win a big victory. In football, for example, 4-0, the one who wins 4-0, he has given a beating to the others, that is to say he has won a great great victory. So to give a beating is the action of winning and to take a beating is the action of losing. So someone who has taken a beating is for example the team that lost 4-0. To take a beating is to suffer; to give a beating or to give a beating is somewhere the action of doing it.
Getting back into something means starting something again that you used to do and that you stopped. If I played football for 10 years and I stop for 5 years, I will say: "I'm going to get back into football", that means I'm going to restart football, I'm going to take up this activity again.
Going to the gym is short for going to the gym. So in general, it means doing weight training, going to a gym to build muscle.
Chatter means to discuss, to exchange for a long time. There is really the idea that we are among friends and that we discuss things and others. It is not a single subject. We will chat, talk about lots of different things. It is familiar language.
To play sports is a somewhat common way of saying to practice a sport. To practice a sport is a bit more sustained.
To dance like a foot. When you do something like a foot, you do it very badly. Personally, I dance like a foot. That means I dance very badly, I'm not a good dancer. But you can also say that someone tinkers like a foot or really like a foot, that means in a bad way, you do it very very badly.
To be together means to spend time together. Very often, it is a couple who will say that they want to have time just as a couple. So to be together can be used for parents who would say: "We're going to go to the movies, the children are going to stay with a babysitter, we're going to be together". It means there will only be two of us, we will be just between us, as a couple.
