Hello everyone! Thank you for joining me for this new episode of "Walk with Johan". I am very happy and thank you for taking a few moments to listen to me talk about emotions today, about eliminating negative emotions, really. This will be today's topic.
Before that, I remind you that you can join the Français Authentique newsletter for free . You have a link in the description of this episode and then you put your email address and you will receive exclusive content twice a week to learn French.
So today, once again, a topic of personal development and I have already discussed this topic. It is linked to emotions. We have talked about it several times in other content, but I wanted to talk about it today a little from another angle, that is to say in a different way, because it is misunderstood by many people.
I see it when I talk with friends, for example, or with members of the Authentic French Academy in our Zoom room. I realize that often when we talk about negative emotions, well, they have the reflex to want to eliminate them. They say to me: "How can I eliminate my negative emotions?" and so they see negative emotions as south africa whatsapp number data bad things, things to eliminate, as if they were ultimately bugs in nature, as if nature had made a mistake, had said: "Well, there you go, man is here, man has evolved, man has lots of great characteristics, but there is a bug. There are negative emotions and this bug must be resolved, so they must be eliminated."
And obviously, it's a mistake to think like that because negative emotions are not bad in themselves. They are useful, negative emotions, because it's a message, it's information.
The most well-known example of a slightly negative emotion is what we call the "fight-or-flight response." The Americans, who discovered this, called it "fight-or-fly." And that's why in French, it was translated as combat-fuite.
And this example, this reaction, this response, it probably contributed to the survival of our species. Those who had it, those who had this reaction of saying: "I see a danger, either I fight, if I have time or if I don't have time to leave, either I leave, or I flee", survived long enough to transmit their gene. And those who didn't have this response, those who were there: "So, what am I going to do?", because they didn't have any emotion in the end, "What am I going to do? Am I going to fight this ferocious animal or am I going to leave?" Well, by the time they asked themselves the question, they were being eaten. So those who didn't have this response died, devoured by lions or ferocious beasts. So this emotion which is negative in itself, because it has a big impact on our physique at a given moment, well it certainly allowed our species to survive.
Eliminate negative emotions, really?
