1. Annual James Muiruri Memorial Lecture: ‘What role for general principles in the international legal order?’ The members of the Sheffield Centre for International and European Law (SCIEL) are hosting this year’s James Muiruri Memorial Lecture on Wednesday 11 May. The Lecture, held in honour of former Sheffield PhD student Dr James Muiruri who was tragically killed in Kenya in 2009, is open to anyone interested in international law. See the Event flyer for more information. In this year’s Lecture, Professor Catherine Redgwell, Chichele Professor of Public International Law, University of Oxford, will reflect on ‘the general principles of law recognized by civilized investor database nations’, to consider whether such principles ought to play a greater role in the international legal order, and, if so, what that role should be. Light refreshments will be served from 4.00pm. The Lecture will begin at 4.30pm and will be followed by a Q&A session. The event will be delivered in a hybrid format: On-campus: The Diamond, University of Sheffield; Online: A joining link will be provided to attendees who sign up through the registration link. Register here. Any questions should be sent to law-marketing {at} sheffield.ac(.)uk or event convenor Dr Callum Musto (c.musto {at} sheffield.ac(.)uk).
