I Don’t Miss Calls—I Just Don’t Use a Number: My 60 Days Living SIM-Free

Post by mouakter14 »

For the past 60 days, I’ve been living without a phone number. No SIM card in my phone, no traditional calls or SMS—just Wi-Fi-based communication. You might think I’d miss calls or feel disconnected, but honestly? I don’t miss calls at all. The truth is, I don’t need a phone number to stay connected, run my business, or manage my personal life. This experiment taught me that the old idea of being “always reachable” by phone number is outdated—and maybe even overrated.

Without a number, I shifted completely to messaging apps, emails, and scheduled video calls. Tools like WhatsApp, Telegram, Zoom, and Google Meet became my lifelines. I realized that most communication today happens online anyway, and many people prefer texting or messaging over phone calls. Even for my business, clients were happy to reach me via email or chat apps. I became more intentional with my availability—I set boundaries around when I’d respond instead of reacting to every ping immediately. This not only reduced stress but also made my interactions more meaningful. I found that people respected the clarity and professionalism of scheduled special database calls or detailed messages over random phone calls.

The biggest surprise? I felt more present and focused without the constant interruption of calls. I was able to dedicate blocks of uninterrupted time to deep work and still stay on top of my projects and communications. Life without a number forced me to rethink how I communicate and connect—and I found it surprisingly freeing. So if you’re wondering if you can survive without a phone number, the answer is yes. You don’t have to miss calls to miss out. You just have to change how you connect. For me, living SIM-free wasn’t about cutting ties; it was about connecting smarter and living freer.
