Rostelecom installed 13 smart pedestrian crossings on regional and municipal roads in Dagestan, equipped with automated lights and photo and video recording systems. In addition, the company's specialists retrofitted five more previously equipped crossings with video surveillance systems.

The solution ensures pedestrian safety and compliance with traffic rules. Smart pedestrian crossings have appeared in Makhachkala, Buinaksk, Kaspiysk and 11 other district-level settlements of the republic. The work was carried out within the framework of the federal project "Safe and High-Quality Roads".

The smart pedestrian crossing system illuminates a person crossing the roadway regardless of the speed at which he or she is moving. The illumination works even if the pedestrian stops or goes in the opposite direction. This is especially important for children who can suddenly run out onto the road and then change their trajectory: the system still has time to react and turn on the necessary program. Another advantage of the lighting system is that it does not blind drivers.

Functional modules help ensure transparency of processes and effective control over situations on the roads. The system performs an important social task: it ensures a reduction in the level of accidents with human casualties at pedestrian crossings, the number of which remains high in the republic. In addition, in general, intelligent transport technologies in populated areas can significantly increase the efficiency of urban resource management, which has a positive effect on the investment attractiveness of the region," commented Ruslan Yarakhmedov, Director of the Dagestan branch of PJSC Rostelecom.
