Url Format Hostnames and Domains Inside the hostname we have a component called domain, which is a name registered to a certain entity and of which that entity has control. Hostnames are read from right to left , as they represent a hierarchy. Starting from the right we therefore have first level domainssecond leveland so on. Under .com are “registered comoros business email list many domains , each of which is controlled by a different entity. The registration procedure is carried out at a Registrar who is the person in charge of managing a top-level domain.

The Registrar, after having stipulated a contract with the entity that wants to purchase a domain, registers a domain in the top-level registry for which it is responsible. There are many top- level and rules. In the early days of the web, there was a clearer distinction than today regarding the domains registered to the different TLDs: for example, .net was reserved for entities that offered network services. Nowadays, with the exception of a few (e.g. .edu), it is easier to be accepted by registrars for a TLD even if it was not initially created with that purpose: we therefore have generic TLD.
