Technology and political participation

Post by monira444 »

Due to the complexity of collecting more than one and a half million signatures that meet the requirements mentioned above, only four popular initiative projects were converted into federal laws: the Daniella Perez case; combating vote buying; affordable housing; and the Clean Record Law .

In recent years, as society has witnessed a significant increase in the number of people with internet access and digital maturity, many questions have been raised about the benefits that technology can bring to political participation. But after all, have advances in technological processes improved the way politics is done?

The fact is that data sharing solutions have allowed the czech republic mobile database population to experience a profound social change in terms of access to information, such as the speed at which news (fake or not) is obtained, which can directly impact public opinion .

Nowadays, decisions made by political leaders have much faster repercussions and reach much greater proportions in a much shorter time. Furthermore, with social media, we have easier access to the positions of other citizens, as well as to the positions of parliamentarians who more openly expose how they defend certain issues, leading to voters identifying themselves or alienating them.

Another factor that contributes to us being increasingly impacted by information on topics that permeate the political environment are the algorithms used on social networks and which indicate to us, in a personalized way, suggestions of content that are in line with our position, increasing polarization – a process that causes negative effects on democracy.

And, although the world of social networks is not the ideal environment for doing politics, the observation of the growing positioning on various issues that affect society has revealed opportunities for other platforms to be developed with the purpose of expanding participatory democracy, such as the e-Democracy portal , of the Chamber of Deputies, which aims to encourage social participation in the legislative process, and the Poder do Voto application , a non-profit institution whose mission is to engage voters and representatives in the debate on bills that are being processed in the National Congress.
