The international company Ookla conducted a study in which it identified mobile Internet speed indicators among all Russian telecom operators. The study was based on Internet speed measurements that subscribers of all operators made from mobile devices using the Speedtest application. In total, subscribers made 12.75 million measurements across the country from 1.38 million different devices in the first half of 2024.
In terms of mobile singapore whatsapp resource Internet speed, PJSC MegaFon has outpaced other telecom operators with an average of 37.88 Mbit/s. It is followed by PJSC VimpelCom (Beeline brand) - 35.94 Mbit/s, PJSC Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) - 31.74 Mbit/s, and LLC T2 Mobile (Tele2) - 25.59 Mbit/s.
The median download speed in the MegaFon network for the first half of 2024 was 29.65 Mbit/s, and the data upload speed was 9.46 Mbit/s. According to these indicators, MegaFon is the leader in 19 regions of Russia (by median download speed) and in 39 regions (by data upload speed), respectively. Of these, the operator showed the highest result in download speed in Moscow - 56.96 Mbit/s, the lowest in the Belgorod region - 24 Mbit/s. In terms of data upload speed, MegaFon has the best result in the Penza region - 15.5 Mbit/s.
was 27.5 Mbit/s, MTS - 25.09 Mbit/s, Tele2 - 20.34 Mbit/s. However, the leader in median download speed among Russian operators was Beeline - 9.58 Mbit/s (versus 9.46 Mbit/s for MegaFon). MTS's figure was 8.30 Mbit/s, Tele2's - 6.42 Mbit/s.
"In order to maintain our positions, this work cannot be stopped. Therefore, in 2024, we will continue the refarming program - we will transfer frequencies used in 2G and 3G networks to the modern LTE standard, provide high-quality communications to federal highways and sparsely populated areas, and also introduce new technologies to the network," said a representative of the press service of PJSC MegaFon, commenting on the research results.
Leading analyst at Mobile Research Group Eldar Murtazin doubted the results of the study: "The Ookla results are quite relative. Because this is a test that is usually launched when a user has problems with connection speed. It covers the entire country unevenly and greatly underestimates the average speed for everyone. It is not that Ookla asks to launch a test on a specific day. Although they have an application mode when the connection quality is constantly measured. But most people turn it off because it uses up a lot of traffic. Knowing this methodology, it is not very clear what and how they measure. In addition, the situation can vary greatly from region to region."
A representative of the press service of PJSC VimpelCom assured that the operator provides the speed required by the user in excess: "It is worth noting that the average speed has a very small impact on the end user of the service, since there are practically no services that require more than 12 Mbit/s. It is important here that the subscriber receives these 10-12 Mbit/s always and everywher
